Although I photograph weddings at the Boston Public Library on a delightfully regular basis, it is actually quite unusual for me to get a prime date wedding (June – with the late sunset) and sunshine – so my day with Christine & Nick was nothing short of perfect!
I was greeted at Christine’s suite by their gorgeous German Short-haired Pointer, Quinn, who quickly became my friend. He was originally Christine’s dog – and played a large part in how she and Nick got together – so I knew that photos of him, and their relationship, would be super important to her. Luckily he’s pretty easy on the eye, and had no issue with having a camera in his snout throughout the day!
While Christine had hair and makeup time with her friends, I spent some time setting up a flatlay of the beautiful and huge suite of wedding stationery. Christine had done much of the design herself, and incorporated so many creative and fun/funny touches (my favorite of which was the doggy “wallpaper” design on the back of one of the cards). She also designed each and every bookmark for the incredible seating chart … and design is just a side hobby for her; she is actually an author!
Nick got ready with his best friends in a separate room at the Fairmont. They were so full of laughter, it was a joy to photograph; both of these guys wear their hearts on their sleeves and have such amazing connections with their siblings and besties.
Christine and Nick opted to have their first look on the grand staircase at the Boston Public Library. It makes for beautiful first look photos and then a very frantic timeline trying to squeeze in all the important group photos and couples portraits (we had to finish up their couples portraits a little later in fact) but I really love all the backgrounds we captured. The courtyard (and Juliet balcony) are their favorite spots so we took the majority of their photos there, and what a day for it! I especially love the full wedding party photos of everyone cheering, and then the photo of Nick being lifted up by his groomsmen.
The ceremony and cocktail hour both took place in the courtyard, making it a seamless experience for the guests. I was able to get some great photos from the balcony towards the end of cocktail hour; June really is the most amazing month for weddings at the BPL, with all that lovely evening light.
Dinner took place in Bates Hall – I love hearing all the “oohs and ahhs” from guests as they enter the space – but right before we snuck in a few more couples photos on the stairs and in the Chevannes Gallery while guests were being seated.
Dinner included some lovely toasts, and the sweetest moment post-cake cutting: they invited their dads up to cut a special Father’s Day cake. Then, it was time for dancing in the Abbey Room.
Thank you Christine & Nick for a super fun day, and shout outs to our lovely vendor team, including Anna at The Twenty Four Diaries (my first time working with a content creater – she was fantastic) and florist Krista of Flwrfina who flew up from Florida for this wedding! And, as always, the amazing team at The Catered Affair who I just adore.
