I’ve been in the Caribbean for a couple of weeks, on a sailing trip with my hubby and some of our best friends from Seattle. It was amazing in every way – stunningly beautiful, tons of fun (snorkeling, windsurfing, eating and drinking were our main activities aside from the sailing) and warm. So blissfully warm! I was incredibly lucky to be able to take engagement photos for my dear friends Mike and Beth while we were there. We’re heading back to Seattle for their wedding in a few short weeks, and I am so excited to be their wedding photographer! Beth and Mike became great friends a few years ago, and our sons (doggies) are like brothers. It was actually really tough photographing a couple I know and adore – you always feel like you’re missing something – but I love the photos that we created together.
We had three mini sessions during our time in the British Virgin Islands, and they are presented in no particular order here. 🙂 First, a vista from Marina Cay:
I love this little series from Cooper Island Beach Club:
Beautiful early morning light and bright blue water on Marina Cay:
Beth fell in love with the hammocks all over the islands … and I was in love with the light here …
A couple more photos from Cooper Island and then the beach huts on Marina Cay:
Although most of the photos here are from my Nikon D700, I also brought along an underwater point and shoot camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS10. It’s a fantastic little camera for vacations – super tiny and totally waterproof (without additional casing) up to three meters. That’s all I had on me when I spotted Mike and Beth snorkeling together, and I had to get some photos:
Two things. First: how cute is Beth’s striped bikini?? Second: yes, the water really was that blue. And clear. Bliss! Some post-swimming photos from later in our trip … this was at our final stop, Deadman’s Bay on Peter Island:
And back to Marina Cay … the island was covered in beautiful pink flowers. Love these shots:
And down by the water on Marina Cay (the site of much rum consumption the previous afternoon …):
Of course, having an underwater camera with me meant I had to get some fun snorkeling photos of these two. I can’t believe how well these came out – thanks to my awesome little point and shoot!
One last favorite image to end with … huge thanks to Mike and Beth for being my BVIs “photo meat” – I hope you enjoy your teasers!
I wish there was a love button for these!!
You two look so DARN CUTE and HAPPY! Ahh! I’m so excited for you guys and can’t wait to see the wedding pictures. Beth, you are a darling!
The first image of course I love! 😉 The second one is my favorite of the two of them though, so so precious! They are all magnificent though and the ones on the hammock I want to frame… and they aren’t even of me! GORGEOUS!
Congrats again!
Aw, thank you so much Corey 🙂
Love love LOVE!! Adorable, those two. Fantabulous photos, Kate!!
Thank you Stace! Can’t wait to see you soon!
Kate, you are a master – I love our engagement pics! It was so awesome to be photographed in such a beautiful place by someone who knows us well – we can’t wait for you to shoot our wedding! 🙂

I LOVE your website.
Karen (Beth’s mom)
Karen, I am so excited to meet you! Thank you for the lovely comment and see you in a few short weeks. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous Kate! Beth & Mike are just adorable and it looked they you all had a wonderful vacation and mini shoot session! Nothing like great friends, great photos, a little “rum consumption” and a beautiful backdrop! The underwater pics were fantastic but I just LOVE the last one of them!
What a treat to be in such a beautiful location, not that you need one to make amazing photos. I think the very first one is my favorite!
