BPL Summer Wedding: Margot & Grant

Sep 8, 2025 | BPL Weddings, City Weddings, Weddings

I know I say this often, but my goodness am I lucky to work with such amazing couples – and families. This late summer wedding at the Boston Public Library was an absolute delight to photograph from beginning to end, and I was welcomed like an old family friend.

I started my day with Margot, first photographing some details, then documenting the end of her getting ready time. Although she and Grant opted to just have their two brothers stand with them, I loved that she included her best friends in the getting ready time that morning. The other thing that was really special was her inviting both moms to help her get dressed. What a beautiful way to honor your mom-in-law – it really speaks to a special relationship. Grant’s room was less busy but just as fun – both dads and both brothers were there with him, and again I loved how he included his new family-in-law.

Grant and Margot had a private first look on Commonwealth Ave – it was unusually busy there, thanks I’m sure to the absolutely perfect weather on this late summer day – the sort of weather we get for maybe 10 days each year: sunny and warm but not swelteringly hot. Bliss!

We then jumped on a trolley with both immediate families, and took some photos in my favorite spot in the Boston Public Garden. It was teeming with people there, but this spot is great because you can have a lovely soft willow tree background without too many people in the background. We then headed back to Copley and met with Grant’s grandparents (three! So wonderful!) for some portraits on the steps outside the Library.

We continued portraits inside on the grand staircase, then I whisked Margot and Grant around my favorite couples portraits spots. My very favorite moment was when Grant asked for a specific photo of Margot while we were in the courtyard – he wanted to remember a particular view of her in her dress and veil and it was just the cutest moment! Couples, please know that I LOVE getting these special requests, despite the bulk of my work being documentary in nature. I want to help you remember these poignant moments throughout your wedding day.

The ceremony was held in the courtyard right around sunset, and it was so perfect. There were two readings, one of which was from one of my recent favorites, ‘A Man Called Ove’. Plus, the lovely officiant, Adrian, was a fellow Brit. 🙂 As always though, my favorite photos came from right at the end of the ceremony, as Margot & Granted exited to huge cheers and a lot of smiles.

During cocktail hour, my second photographer Billy did a great job capturing candid moments (I LOVE the two posted below) while I took some fun large group photos in the courtyard, then headed up to Bates Hall to photograph the reception decor.

Dinner in Bates Hall was a delight of delicious food from The Catered Affair, and five fantastic toasts, followed by a semi-private cake cutting with both sets of parents. We then headed into the Abbey Room for a very fun night of dancing, including two lively parent dances (loved these!) and a super cute outfit change for Margot right before I left for the evening.

As always, thank you to the lovely vendor team including Ellie Durbin of The Aisle Assistant, Megan & Meghan at The Catered Affair, MJP Floral, CJC Lighting, Night Shift band Soho, and Sounds & Smiles Entertainment. And finally a huge thank you to Margot & Grant, Paige & Herb, Gail & Chris, Cam and Drew for the warm welcome and for being so fun to photograph all day!
