Pilgrim Monument Wedding in Provincetown: Samto & Ben

Aug 23, 2025 | Cape Cod Weddings, Weddings

This Pilgrim Monument wedding in Provincetown was one of my favorite days I’ve ever documented. It was so authentic, sweet, emotional, funny, and honest. These two grooms are wonderful humans and have an amazing partnership, and it was just a joy to photograph them.

I started my day with some brief getting ready photos at Ben & Samto’s hotel in P-town, The Inn at Cook Street, over in the east end of town. They’d rented out the entire place for their wedding party, and the only strangers were the lovely owner – who went above and beyond for us, bringing us to a friend’s gorgeous waterfront home for some portraits – and his adorable pup.

Before the wedding, I had asked Samto and Ben what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day and one of the things they mentioned was being on Commercial Street, surrounded by people and color and vibrancy, being celebrated and welcomed as a gay couple. They traveled from Madison, WI for their wedding, and P-Town is a really special place for them as a couple, and for Ben and his siblings too. So, of course, we stopped on Commercial Street for some couples photos (and lots of joyful “congrats”).

The ceremony was held in the lovely shade of the huge tree next to the Pilgrim Monument. There was not a cloud in the sky so I was very relieved about this! A close family friend officiated and there was a wonderful song by another friend.

Cocktail hour was held at the base of the monument and I split my time between candids of family and friends, photos of the delicious food, and the setup in the tent. I loved that Ben and Samto made really eco-friendly choices for their wedding – for example potted plants took the place of flowers.

Dinner was everything it should be: amazing food, served family-style, and the most heartfelt and emotional toasts from multiple friends and family members. I really enjoyed the challenge of documenting guests interacting with the food as it was passed around. At the end of dinner, we headed out for some sunset portraits and a handle of fun group photos, then Ben and Sam cut their cake with hidden rainbow frosting – so great! Then it was time for the dance party and a few last photos.

Huge thanks to Olivia of Brent Events for all her help both before and on the day, and of course to Samto & Ben for trusting me to document their amazing wedding! I adore you both! I hope you enjoy these highlights. 🙂
