On a delightfully misty summer day in Boston, just over a week ago, I photographed my second ever JFK Library wedding. What a fun weekend I spent with these lovely families!
On Friday evening I documented the welcome party at Trillium Brewing in Fort Point, and on Saturday I started coverage of the wedding day at the Intercontinental Hotel with the girls getting ready.
The details and decor at this wedding were absolutely incredible – Liz had a very specific vision for a vibrant color palette in minty green and bright summer citrus which she executed with the help of an amazing vendor team headed up by one of my absolute favorites, Liz Quill of Elegant Aura, with Kerianne Nelson Flora creating the most gorgeous florals throughout.
There were so many thoughtful touches, including luggage tag escort cards featuring a sketch of the JFK Library (design by Fete, luggage tags by Letter + Leather, both local MA vendors), and the cake was one of the most unique I’ve seen – an artistic rendition of the JFK Library by DessertWorks Bakery! I also have to give a shout-out to some of the other fantastic women-owned businesses that were crucial to this wedding, including Sandy Mulrey (DesignLight Co), Natalie Shafie (makeup) and Jeanne Spence of Gourmet Caterers. It was truly an honor to be a part of such a talented and kind team.
A couple of favorite getting ready moments included Zane’s mom gifting Liz a pair of diamond earrings, one of which was made with her engagement ring (what an incredibly thoughtful gift!) and both dads helping Zane get dressed. Liz actually wore three engagement diamonds – the earrings from Zane’s parents, as well as two of her mom’s family heirlooms, one that was made into her own ring, and the other part of a necklace and a “something borrowed” from her mom.
Once everyone was ready, we had a quick first look with Liz’s dad, then the bridal party jumped on a trolley to Fan Pier Park where we held Liz & Zane’s first look. I absolutely loved that her dad walked her over under an umbrella – I am hoping this becomes a new wedding trend.
The backdrop of Boston in the mist was so perfect that we ended up photographing the majority of the portraits there; the odd weather also meant we weren’t battling with tourists and locals in the background, a rare treat in the busy Seaport.
Once at the JFK Library, we took some portraits on the stairs outside, then it was time for the ketubah signing in the hospitality suite and some additional family photos on the terrace.
The ceremony was held in the pavilion at the JFK Library, such a perfect spot for a large wedding ceremony – there were around 300 guests! My favorite ceremony moments included Zane’s reaction to Liz walking down the aisle (even after a first look), and when Zane’s vows included a promise to Liz that they would get a Golden Retriever. Her reaction was priceless!
There was a lot of discussion about whether cocktail hour should be held outside – they had to make the call early in the day and the weather forecast wasn’t great – but they definitely made the right choice; it was absolutely perfect. I was very excited to see that Basho had a huge sushi station as part of the cocktail hour provisions (I didn’t try it, but it looked so good).
Dinner and dancing were held in Smith Hall which looked so amazing with the vibrant color scheme and huge pendant lamps. Some favorite reception moments included the hora (obviously), the lovely toasts, and at the end of my evening Zane performed drums with the band and absolutely killed it! So much talent! The crowd, of course, went wild. It was the perfect end to my coverage.
Thank you Liz, Zane, and your families and friends for a really fantastic weekend. I hope you enjoy these “teasers”!
