I don’t often photograph New Years Eve weddings but I’m so glad I spent this day with Kaitie & Greg and their families and friends. What a fun way to end an amazing wedding season! This wedding had lots of firsts for me: a whole new vendor team including the fantastic Kristen Delano of Blackwater Events, and videographers Mike & Kelsey of Billodeau Video (it’s always a delight finding new awesome videographers I can recommend to my couples!); a new reception venue – the Westin Copley; and a new church – St Agatha’s in Milton. Oh! And not pictured here, but I had my second photographer Billy come along and set up a “portrait booth” so that couples and families could get nice photos together throughout the evening, while I was able to focus on candids … this was such a neat idea.
I started with some final touch getting ready photos with Kaitlin & Greg, who were in connected rooms – an absolute dream scenario for your photo-video team in case you’re curious. My favorite moments were of Kaitie’s mom helping her into her dress, and of course her first look with her dad which was just the sweetest. Then, we headed over to the John Hancock building for their first look. We had actually planned to be over at Trinity Church, but the weather was incredible for late December, and so we made a last minute decision to go with a beautiful spot I had always wanted to use. Greg and Kaitie read each other their personal vows while we were there, my very favorite of several new wedding traditions we’ve seen pop up over the last few years.
Then, we raced over to the front steps of the Boston Public Library for wedding party and family photos. It’s such a classic spot for photos, and I especially love the full wedding party photos here. Then, we all jumped onto a trolley and headed down to St Agatha’s in Milton, where one of Kaitie’s uncles married the couple in a really lovely Catholic ceremony. As always, my very favorite photos came from the processional and recessional – and the first pumps as Greg & Kaitie exited the church!
After a brief portrait stop on Comm Ave, just as the lights came on, we headed back to the Westin. Greg and Kaitie had some downtime, and I photographed the reception details, and helped Billy set up the portrait area. It was really nice having some time to do all this before the official start of cocktail hour.
Cocktail hour was held in a really great room with views over Copley Square, and the reception was in a huge ballroom. The flower arrangements (and bouquets) were all made by Greg’s mom – how awesome is that?! I made sure to take a lot of photos of all of her hard work, with just a few photos shown below. More coming soon!
After some fun entrances, we went straight into toasts, then dinner, then dancing. I had a delightfully early finish (especially for a NYE wedding, ha!) but was there just long enough to get a few great dancing photos. Shout out to Copilot band who were so good! And also to the lovely staff at the Westin who along with Kristen made it such an easy, relaxed, fun evening.
Thank you Kaitie & Greg – I hope you enjoy these teasers! Many more coming in a few short weeks!
