York Harbor Reading Room wedding photos from a gorgeous fall wedding. This was my second wedding at this incredibly beautiful and intimate York, Maine wedding venue.
I can’t believe I’m just now sharing these beautiful wedding photos from the York Harbor Reading Room in Maine. Alison and Justin had such a lovely day, and braved icy cold winds and hazardous rocks to get portraits that showcased the wild Maine coast. They were such rockstars! Alison kindly wrote about the day, so I’ll let her take over from here. Thanks to my second shooter Adam Glanzman for a few of the ceremony and cocktail hour photos, as well as the photos of Justin and the guys getting ready.
How/why did you choose your wedding venue, York Harbor Reading Room?
We found photos of York Harbor Reading Room in a Seacoast Weddings magazine article. We were already looking for an oceanfront location, and the venue was exactly what we had envisioned! I grew up on the coast and Justin grew up in Maine, so it was the best of both worlds!
Why did you choose Kate to be your wedding photographer?
We looked at the work of an embarrassing amount of photographers online before we found Kate. Out of all our vendors, we definitely spent the most time finding a photographer. We were trying to find someone who could capture the day in a timeless, classic, and crisp way, but still bring energy and freshness to the work. Her work really captures the emotions and energy of the day. After meeting her we knew instantly that she was a perfect fit! We also knew that we did not want a video, and didn’t need one with Kate. Her work really captured the essence of the day!
What were some of your favorite wedding day moments?
We were very lucky with our weather as Hurricane Joaquin was supposed to move up the coast and provide us with a rainy weekend. Although the day was somewhat cold, the rain subsided and we were provided with a dramatic ocean as the backdrop to our ceremony and reception! Our ceremony was a really special part of the day for us, and the sounds from the waves crashing behind us made it even more so!
Our band made the night a success. The Beat Drops brings so much energy to their work, and they quickly got everyone dancing. They were even encore requests made!
The funniest moment is probably when we were hiking on rocks in our wedding attire in a very windy and raw area by the ocean. We were really cold and I imagine we were quite a silly sight because many tourists started to take pictures of us while wearing their hooded down coats! We are still waiting for them to send us their shots!
What were some of your favorite details?
We had a very specific idea in mind for our wedding cake. Jenny from Jenny’s Cakes executed our vision perfectly!
Did any of your vendors go above and beyond for you?
Kate, of course! Also, Mary Mace, the onsite coordinator at York Harbor Reading Rooms, was exceptional. She is just a lovely person, and we can’t say enough good things about her. She went above and beyond for us every step of the way, from customizing the menu to so much more. We’re so thankful for all that she did!
Anything else you’d like to share, or any tips for couples currently planning their wedding?
Our recommendation is to choose Kate as your wedding photographer! She is exceptionally talented, organized, and her spirited personality will be a welcome and much needed addition to your day!
What’s up next for you as a couple?
We had our honeymoon in Thailand and Cambodia, and are now just enjoying married life!
