Boston Proposal Photographer: Emilie + Nicole’s Jamaica Pond Proposal Session

Nov 13, 2013 | Engagements, LGBT Couples, Proposals

I finally got to photograph my very first proposal a couple of weeks ago, and can now legitimately claim to be a fabulous Boston proposal photographer! Every year I donate my services to a worthy cause or two, and I was delighted to donate a session to GLAD, an organization whose work includes fighting for LGBT rights. I was so happy when Emilie emailed me a couple of months ago to let me know that she had won the session with me at the GLAD auction, and that she was hoping to have me photograph her proposal to her girlfriend Nicole. Yay!

Nicole planned out (in meticulous detail) a day of celebration and pampering for Nicole. The day started with Nicole’s final class of Marriage Law (she’s training to become a lawyer) and included lunch with her best friends, a massage, a nail appointment, and haircut. Throughout the day, Emilie arranged for friends and strangers to send Nicole best wishes and congratulations via email and text. At around 5pm, a little before sunset, I headed over to the band stand at Jamaica Pond, the spot Emilie had chosen for the proposal itself. Emilie waited anxiously for Nicole, and just as the sun set over the pond she arrived.

The proposal was really beautiful, and both awesome and super tricky to photograph; we were in a tiny space with rapidly fading light … but I’m so happy with the moments I captured for them. After, we grabbed a few portraits at Jamaica Pond just as the last light faded, then headed over to Emilie and Nicole’s home for a surprise party. Thank you Emilie for trusting me to document this amazing time in your lives – and I can’t wait to share more photos with you in a couple of weeks! And if you came here looking for a Boston proposal photographer, please get in touch here – I’d love to chat with you!
