Come Rain, Hail or Shine: Murray Franklyn Employee Event

Apr 21, 2008 | Portraits

On Friday I had an unusual photo challenge: documenting an employee event for Murray Franklyn over in Redmond. The company is launching Redmond Ridge East, a beautiful suburban housing development, and they wanted to celebrate by giving all of their employees a sneak peak.

I showed up just before 9:30 in the morning to get some photos of the model homes (wow – they are beyond gorgeous!) and at 10am employees from all areas of the company began to arrive. They spent the first couple of hours viewing the homes, walking the cute nature trails and enjoying Starbucks and yummy homemade cookies. I took a mixture of group photos, portraits and candids as they explored, and I even ventured onto the nature trails in the middle of a crazy hail storm! It was fun though – everyone was in high spirits and enjoying celebrating their hard work.

Around midday the barbecue started up (thanks to Woodinville Lumber for this – I had a super tasty burger), and the sun finally came out. We were over by a kids’ play area for the barbecue, so I had a great time snapping away at people swinging and clambering and generally having a good time. After lunch, there was a killer white elephant prize draw – one of the prizes was a night for two at Hotel 1000 (so cool!) – and then we ended with a huge company photo for the office. Here’s a selection of photos from the event – and there will be more for the Murray Franklyn crew on my website in a few days.

  1. Wow, gorgeous homes (and photos)!! Quite the crazy hail storm indeed, I was hit by it downtown. Nicely done on the event coverage, as usual. =]

  2. Job well done Kate! You did an amazing job of capturing every aspect of this event. From the wind, rain, sleet, snow and shine – it was quite the crazy weather pattern – but we were crazy enough to have a BBQ throughout. All in all, we had a fun time and the employees LOVED the event. Thanks again for everything!!!!

  3. Aren’t they lucky to have found you?! These are wonderful….so many great shots of the overall scene, lots of wonderful portraits, and of course such your signature detail shots. Is there anything you can’t do? Um. No. : ) Great job!

  4. Very nice set! I love the shot of the two guy eating on the swings. Did you shoot the group shot from a ladder?
