Over the last few years, I’ve had a lot of students and beginning photographers email me to see if I offered internships. Well, I’m excited to announce that yes, now I do. I’ve been looking to replace my fabulous office assistant Ashley for a while, and wanted to offer a position that includes paid office work and also provides an excellent learning opportunity.
I’m currently looking for a smart, fun person to come work with me at my home studio in Jamaica Plain, one day per week. A love of big dogs is a must; most other things can be taught. Some experience in Lightroom and Photoshop would be awesome, but the position does not (yet) include any editing or post-processing.
So what would be involved? Lots of really boring office tasks, is the short answer. 🙂 The long answer: filing; basic accounting; data entry; burning disks; selecting images for submissions; going to the post office; picking up dry-cleaning and other occasional errands; updating my blog and website; research tasks; social media tasks; keywording images; charging batteries; some retouching if experienced.
What wouldn’t be included? For now, I’m not looking to take on an additional photography assistant as I have the wonderful Erica who shoots with me.
What would I get out of it? You’ll get to learn how a successful photography business runs behind the scenes,
What’s the pay? $50 for six hours (but keep reading!)
And now for the fun bit … At the end of the six hours (or partway through the day, it’s up to you) we will spend an hour together working on YOU. Each week, you’ll let me know what you’d like to work on and together we’ll develop your business and photography skills. Some of the things we could work on include:
• critiquing your latest wedding or portrait session
• photographing together
• working on your website or blog
• talking about business
• teaching on lighting, posing, etc.
If this sounds like a great opportunity, and you’re willing to commit to six months, please email me. Please include your resume, some general info about you, and your reasons for wanting the position. Please also describe your skill level (if any) in Photoshop, Lightroom, Photomechanic, PhotoJunction, FTP sites, html, PCs and Macs. Please let me know your weekday availability; I am looking for an assistant/intern who is available one day per week, Tuesday through Friday. Finally, give me three times over the next ten days when you’d be available to come by for an interview. Thanks!
