Ocean Room at Wychmere Wedding: Bridget & Ben

Jun 14, 2024 | Cape Cod Weddings, Weddings, Weddings on the Water

I know I say it often, but damn am I lucky to photograph such amazing couples – and families. Bridget and Ben found me through her mom, and what an honor – Moira (Bridget’s mom) used to work at a very good florist in the area and we worked a single event together many years ago (I think it was in 2015). She has followed me on Instagram ever since, and when Bridget and Ben got engaged, she gave them my info. It is truly so special to be recommended by a fellow wedding professional to their own daughter. Thank you Moira!

I’ve photographed so many weddings at Wychmere and yet this was my very first time photographing in the lovely Ocean Room that sits above Wychmere Harbor with the most delightrful views of both harbor and ocean. It is the smallest of the venues at Wychmere, and perfectly suited to single photographer coverage (my favorite way to work). I very much hope to be back in this fantastic space in the near future!

I started my day with the girls in their very busy and FUN suite. Most of the girls had known each other for many, many years, and you could tell; there was an ease and joy in the room that was so great to photograph. And there were real tears when Bridget had her big reveal with the girls. She is also the first in her friendship group to get married, which made it extra special.

Ben met Bridget when they were just 14 (!) and have dated exclusively ever since. This means an enormous shared group of friends, and just the loveliest, sweetest relationship with each other. Emotions flowed freely throughout the day, and both Bridget and Ben were belly-laughing (or tearing up) all day long. So great!

After a sweet first look and personal vows on the dock at Wychmere, we had a very quick group photo session on the hydrangea lawn, then headed over to the Beach Grill deck for the ceremony. I didn’t manage to get any photos of Ben and the guys during the getting ready time, so I grabbed some candids of them hanging out pre-ceremony instead.

After the ceremony we completed family photos in the cool shade underneath Dune, then headed out onto the beach for some relaxed, fun wedding party photos. We finished up with a couples portrait session, and still had almost a full hour of cocktails once we got back to the Ocean Room (they had opted for an extended cocktail hour which is always a good idea if we’ll be taking more – or all – portraits after the ceremony).

The reception decor was so colorful and vibrant; Moira played a big role in the design, working with her old colleague and friend, florist Laura Seita of Fig & Squill. It was the perfect backdrop to a super fun evening full of heartfelt toasts, laughter-filled first and parent dances, and a very lively dance floor.

I ended my evening with this perfect couple back on the dunes, for a few last couples portraits. Thank you all for the best day, and a shout-out also to Mary at Wychmere for being so helpful and kind throughout.
