Turner Hill Wedding Photos: Cate + Sean

Jul 1, 2014 | Weddings

There are a few venues that I love returning to over and over, and Turner Hill is one of those favorites. Although it’s set within a golf club, this North Shore venue in Ipswich feels more like a stately mansion, with its gorgeous brick building, manicured gardens, lush terraces, and delightful views. I’d been looking forward to Cate and Sean’s wedding at Turner Hill for months, and was thrilled that we had the most beautiful day for their celebration.

I started my day at The Marriott Hotel in Peabody. The girls were getting ready in a huge, recently renovated suite, and spirits were high. Cate’s mom was there with the girls, and her dad and brother popped in and out too. It was a proper family affair, perfect for this family-oriented couple. Cate’s great aunt also made a little visit, bringing with her a beautiful vintage pin and rosary that Cate pinned to her bouquet as her “something old”.

The ceremony was a full Catholic mass at the grand Sacred Hearts church in Haverhill, MA, Sean and Cate’s local church. The usual Catholic church rules applied (minimal movement, and don’t get too close) but I was really happy to be allowed onto the altar during communion – huge thanks to Father Delaney for granting permission; it’s otherwise tough to get nice close-up photos when the couple is facing the altar throughout!

After the ceremony we headed over to Turner Hill for an hour of family photos and portraits before guests arrived for cocktail hour. Having an extra hour built into the timeline means great photos and not having to miss cocktail hour – perfect!

Some of my favorite moments of the day included Cate’s excited smile as she got ready to walk down the aisle … the funny and touching toasts … an incredibly sweet “grandparents dance” that followed the parent dances in the mansion … both Sean and Cate tearing up as they read each others’ wedding day letters once they were dressed … and hugs galore right after the ceremony (this is one of my new favorite parts of the day – everyone is always so happy and excited at this moment!) Huge thanks to my fab second shooter Earl Christie who took a few of the photos above, and freed me up to try some different angles. And thank you Cate and Sean, and your wonderful families, for the incredibly warm welcome. I loved working with you all!
