Last Friday, while Boston was busy baking in a heatwave (103 degrees – what?!) I was sunning myself down in Newport where it was twenty degrees cooler, and quite lovely with that wonderful ocean breeze. As well as a gorgeous Newport wedding at Castle Hill Inn on the Saturday, I had a super fun engagement session with Allie and Phil the evening before.
Allie and Phil got engaged on Cliff Walk last winter, and coming back to one of their favorite places on earth was incredibly emotional for them. Allie got choked up a couple of times, and she told me that this year has been the most perfect time in all her life – she feels so lucky and grateful. I told her that she deserved every last little bit of the joy she feels; good things happen to good people. Anyway, we started out on Cliff Walk for a few shots – this is my favorite, a little moment between the set up shots:
We then headed over to the magnificent mansion, The Breakers. They spent time here the day they got engaged, and it was so much fun returning for photos in the gorgeous grounds.
These two are so sweet together:
The second part of our extended session was an amazing sunset sail! My husband is a big sailor, and we spend a lot of our free time on his sailboat, so I of course jumped at the chance to take photos during a sail around Narragansett Bay. What I hadn’t figured out was quite how challenging it would be – and I’m honestly quite shocked that I managed not to fall in.
Sunset sails require delicious pink bubbly!
A quieter moment looking out over the bay:
As someone who usually looks for clean backgrounds and empty space for photos, a sailboat is a big challenge. I decided to embrace the clutter and focus on the moments instead … oh and that’s the iconic Newport Bridge in the background:
One final favorite to end the teasers. Thank you both so much for your generosity, for opening up to me, and for so fully embracing our adventure! I hope you’ve enjoyed these teasers!
Love love love the first shot, Kate!
