It’s always a pleasure to photograph a wedding at the iconic Newbury Hotel in Boston, and what a beautiful day we had for Marianne & Matt’s lovely wedding!
I started in Marianne’s suite while she, her sisters and mom were finishing up hair and makeup with the sweet ladies from Boston Beauty Network. With an intimate wedding party (just family), Marianne and Matt’s getting ready time was quite serene, and I quietly wandered between the getting ready room and the bedroom where I laid out the pretty flay lay details. I loved that the florist – the lovely Katie Murphy of Bloom 52 – had provided extra flowers for this!
Matt made his finishing touches downstairs in the Ivy Room, and it was fun photographing the bow tie tying adventure (it’s always an adventure and makes for the best photos!)
The couple wanted a casual first look and we talked about various locations (their home, the entrance to The Newbury, the stairs by the Ivy Room Salon) and they settled on the latter, taking advantage of the privacy and the beautiful spiral staircase. It also made things much easier then traveling back and forth between locations and I always recommend making the day feel as easy as possible.
One of my favorite moments of the day was the private vow reading under the canopy of trees lining Commonwealth Ave. There was so much emotion packed into this short time. Shortly after, we met up with family for the group photos in the Public Garden, then we took a few last photos of Matt & Marianne back along Comm Ave in a couple of my favorite spots there (I will be devastated if that tree on the corner ever disappears!)
The ceremony was short and sweet, allowing for a slightly extended cocktail hour in the dark and moody space outside the ballroom. As usual I was on the lookout for big hugs and laughter, and was not disappointed! We finished up cocktail hour with a couple of portraits in the huge windows overlooking Comm Ave, definitely an iconic location for Newbury Boston weddings.
Matt & Marianne entered their reception and went straight into their first dance complete with perfect dip, then we had three wonderful toasts from Marianne’s father, her two sisters, and Matt’s brother. After a delicious vendor meal (really – it was absolutely fantastic, thank you chef!) I grabbed a few photos of Marianne & Matt making their rounds, then it was time for the cake cutting followed by some fun dancing.
Huge thanks to Maia at The Newbury, Lindsay at Sara Kovel Events, and DJ Michael of MCO Productions for making it such a seamless event. Marianne & Matt, I hope you enjoy these teasers!
