Almost two weeks ago, I photographed my first Hampshire House wedding. It was an intimate celebration, filled with a ton of emotion, and multiple episodes of wedding day tears … in other words, my very favorite kind of wedding day! This was a special day for the bride and groom, Farley and Jason, of course, but even more special perhaps for Farley’s daughter Hope, who officially gained a new dad that day. When I first met them, they told me what an important role Hope played in their lives, and how important it was that she be a big part of the wedding day, and the resulting photos.
I started my day at the fabulous XV Beacon hotel where everyone was getting ready. One of my very favorite makeup artists in Boston, Veronica Shin, was busy working her magic on Farley when I started photos:
There were many gifts exchanged during the getting ready time. Hope took Farley’s gift to Jason up to his room – and was surprised with a beautiful bracelet from him. I absolutely love her reaction – and the simple, sweet photo of her hugging him so tightly after is one of my favorites from the whole day!
I had some fun with the details, using this pretty box I found in the suite at XV Beacon.
Farley’s final hair fixes – love her huge smile here!
Farley gave Jason a really unique gift: a Japanese money chest containing some sweet and fun gifts. My favorite of the gifts inside was a trio of coins, one from each of their birth years, and one from this year, the year of their marriage.
Farley’s girls helping her into her wedding dress:
And Farley reading her card from Jason … which contained what must have been an incredibly moving letter.
After some formal photos in the Public Garden, we headed over to Hampshire House for the ceremony. It was held in the lovely library there, and officiated by the always wonderful Gayle Smalley:
Krista Guenin was my fab second shooter that day, and she captured this great shot of Farley and her father about to process down the aisle:
Meanwhile, I was photographing Jason’s reaction. The couple chose not to have a first look, so this photo was especially important to capture. And Jason’s expression in the black and white image that follows truly says it all – I was so happy to capture this moment!
Farley listening to Jason’s vows, and Jason’s parents watching the ceremony:
Hope read a sweet passage to her mom and new dad – love this:
Here’s a happy couple! It always makes me laugh watching the emotional roller-coaster of tears and tension, followed by the huge, happy grins at the end of the ceremony.
After the ceremony, we headed back to the Public garden for the remainder of the portraits. Here’s the full wedding party:
And some cute photos of Farley and Jason in a little patch of gorgeous afternoon sunlight:
Love the willow trees at the Public Garden – they make such a perfect backdrop for portraits:
Meanwhile, Krista was photographing cocktail hour for me, back at Hampshire House. I love this image – that light!
A few Hampshire House wedding details from the library:
Two of my favorite photos from the first dance:
Jason’s father gave a wonderful toast … it actually moved Jason’s best man to tears, and Jason wasn’t far behind! I love this shot because you can just make out Jason, Farley and Hope in the background:
After dinner, we sneaked out for a few night time portraits. Here are two of my favorites:
After dinner came the parent dances – love this of Jason and his mom:
And then the party started! Thanks to Beat Train DJ Seth for the great music!
And one final party pic to end on. Thank you all so much for an awesome day, and for the opportunity to photograph my first Hampshire House wedding – and I’ll have a separate post with all the awesomely silly photobooth pics going up in a couple of weeks!
