Devon in November

Jan 13, 2009 | Personal

So, today is my mum’s birthday and in my usual useless style I have completely failed to get her card and presents to the UK on time (I promise I’ll manage this one day – I mean, it can’t be that hard, surely …)  What to do?  Well, since part of her present is some photos from our visit back home in November, I figured a little blog post would be the perfect solution.

The photos are from the four days we spent back in southwest England with mum and dad, and our many mini day trips around Devon with them.  The first couple are from a murky afternoon in Budleigh Salterton where we visited a very cool antiques place.  The next eight (and the main image below) are from my new favorite place in the UK, Dartmoor.  We spent a beautiful, blustery afternoon on the moors, and eating the best pub lunch in the world at the Rugglestone Inn.  I love that the cows roam free there – including along the road, in the traffic!

The ducky photos are from a newish development in Exeter.  I am quite the animal lover as I’m sure you all know by now … and those ducks had me mesmerized.  The last handful of photos are from our final evening in Exmouth.  We enjoyed a sunset stroll through town and along the beach.  Those amazing red cliffs are part of the Jurassic Coast, one of the world heritage sites.  They really are that amazing color.

Happy birthday mum, and I hope these photos tide you over until your real present arrives …

  2. Thanks Kelley! It was my favorite shot from that part of the trip – and is gracing our dining room wall alongside my favorite sheep from Dorset 🙂
