In November, I photographed my first Taj Boston ballroom wedding – although I’ve photographed a ton of weddings on the rooftop, I was really excited to finally enjoy a wedding in the grand ballroom of the hotel. I posted Allie and Phil’s Friday wedding on the Taj rooftop a couple of weeks ago, and today it’s time for their western wedding photos.

I started my day with the guys, at The Art of Shaving on Newbury St. I always encourage the guys to have some photos of them doing something fun on the wedding morning, so that they get some great “getting ready” pictures too. A traditional shave for all the groomsmen is perfect – and I kind of loved the crazy dramatic light in there.

Back at the Taj, Allie and her family and bridesmaids were getting ready in one of the conference rooms.  Allie was super emotional while she was getting dressed, and I love the vertical photo of her wiping a tear.  It was the first of many that day!  Tears turned to gasps when she opened her gift from Phil, a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet that she had hoped to get on their tenth wedding anniversary.  So perfect!

Once everyone was ready, we headed over to the Public Garden for the first look – resulting in my favorite image of the day, the first in the slideshow above – then we gathered up the wedding party and headed over to the North End for some fun group photos.  On our drive up there, I spotted the carousel, and asked Allie and Phil if they were up for a little ride … it turned out that this was one of the highlights of their day!

The ceremony was at Boston’s Old South Church.  The church has very restrictive rules on where photographers are allowed to stand during the church (you can pick one of three spots!!) and I was so thankful to have Lindsay Flanagan second shooting with me; she got some great photos from the balcony to add a little variety.

Taj Boston ballroom weddings are known for their elegance and luxurious decor, and Allie and Phil’s wedding did not disappoint!  The flowers were gorgeous, and they fit perfectly with the mix of golds, creams and pinks.  I loved the guest favors: little personalized jars of raspberry, peach and champagne jam from Stonewall Kitchen.  The reception was super fun and bursting with emotion.  There were beautiful, heartfelt toasts from Allie’s mom and sister, and Phil’s brother, an awesome first dance that ended with some Indian dance moves, and then a ton of crazy dancing to great tunes spun out by DJ Drew of Beat Train Productions.
