Winter Engagement Photos in the Snow: M + M’s Boston Engagement Session

Mar 13, 2014 | Engagements

I absolutely love winter engagement photos – the soft, white snow provides the most beautiful light, and the cold air means that extra snuggling is necessary (how perfect!)  M and M are getting married this spring on the Cape, and there wasn’t a whole ton of time between them booking my services and the wedding day … so we totally lucked out getting the most gorgeous winter day imaginable – fresh snow on the ground, bright sunshine with just a hint of cloudiness, and a glorious 50-something degrees.  I might have done a happy dance or two that morning!

We started out at their awesome condo in the South End.  I immediately spotted the spiral staircase leading to the rooftop terrace (the spot for our final sunset silhouette shots) and thought it would be fun to try taking a photo looking down the staircase.  M and M squeezed in and looked up – perfect!  After a few more photos around the condo, we stepped outside for some outdoor winter engagement photos, stopping first at the Christian Science Plaza, then going on to the Boston Public Library.

My favorite photos came from our time in the Public Garden – and more specifically on the swan pond there.  I’d forgotten that it freezes over during the winter and because it’s so shallow it’s completely safe to walk around on.  I’ve never been that much of a fan of the Public Garden for photos as it’s always so busy, and it’s so over-used – but for a winter engagement session on the ice?  Oh yes!  Thank you M and M for a really fun afternoon, and I can’t wait to document your wedding in a couple of months!

  1. Agreed on the overuse of the Public Gardens, but you made it a winter wonderland in the engagement shoot! Love it!
