TAJ BOSTON INDIAN WEDDING: ANITA + KEITH

Jul 19, 2012 | Weddings

Anita and Keith’s beautiful wedding at the Taj Boston was something I’d been looking forward to from the moment they booked me; it was my first time ever photographing an Indian wedding ceremony, and I couldn’t have had a sweeter, cuter couple to work with for it! I started the day in the lovely Newbury Suite on the third floor of the Taj, the perfect spot for hair and makeup, with its classy decor and beautiful light. Anita was all smiles as she was getting ready:

So excited!

The dressing process is … quite a process! The pleats and folds on the sari have to be just-right, and there is sooo much fabric to wrap around. This is from the early stages:

One of my favorite moments was watching all of Anita’s bridesmaids, and her mom, help put on her jewelry:

Beautiful, Anita. Or rather, beautiful Anita. 🙂

We held the sweet first look in a neighboring suite (where the guys had been hanging out in fact). I love that a little spin to show off the dress almost always happens at some point soon after the first look – I never prompt this stuff (but I love to see it!)

After the first look, we grabbed a few portraits in the Public Garden:

There’s a tradition for Indian brides to have their husband’s initials hidden in their henna; “it is said that the husband’s name in the intricate henna motifs is made for the groom who has to find out his name in his bride’s mehendi as an evidence of his sharp eyes and active brain to impress his girl.” (from iloveindia.com) Here’s Keith searching for his name:

… found it!

Then we were joined by the bridal party (and what an awesome group they were!) for some quick pre-ceremony portraits:

The Indian ceremony was held in the Dining Room on the second floor. It’s an already stunning room – but Anita and Keith’s decor took it to another level.

I was super nervous as the ceremony began, but we got some really great shots.

One of my favorite moments from the ceremony:

During the recessional, Keith and Anita were showered with red rose petals … perfect.

Cocktail hour and the reception were held on the rooftop terrace – one of my very favorite event spaces in all of Boston. Love the vibrant reds and pinks for the flowers (by Misty Florez of Nectar.)

To open the reception, Keith and Anita had planned a secret Bollywood dance. When the “wrong” music first came on they pretended to look shocked, then launched into THIS awesomeness!

Before and after dinner there were some great toasts, and some super sweet parent dances:

And the rest of the evening was spent dancing – thanks for the great tunes, DJ Yogz and DJ Krups of Boston Sound & Light Company.

And while I was capturing the dancefloor craziness, Erica was manning the photobooth … which was a huge success:

Thank you all for an awesome evening, and I hope you’ve enjoyed these teaser photos! I can’t wait to share your slideshow and full gallery in the next couple of weeks.
