Krista and Brian got married at Saltwater Farm Vineyard this past Saturday, and it is one of my very favorite venues in all of New England. A converted airplane hangar, it is modern and quirky, and set in the most beautiful grounds, with the vines providing the backdrop for outdoor ceremonies.

It was the weekend of Hurricane Matthew, and we were all a little nervous about the weather. Although Matthew turned away from New England, another band of rain hit us just moments before the ceremony was about to begin (the girls had already assembled downstairs for the processional when it started). The venue started moving the ceremony inside, but when it became clear that it was just a light rain, the decision was made to head back outside and make use of the many umbrellas around, and hope for the best.

Well, I was thrilled with this decision; although I would never wish rain on anyone’s wedding day, I LOVE the photos I can get when the weather becomes less than “ideal” and I loved the view of the ceremony as Krista walked down the aisle with her parents, through a sea of umbrellas and scarves-used-as-umbrellas. A number of guests volunteered to hold umbrellas over the couple, but Brian and Krista seemed perfectly happy getting a little damp, and the ceremony was filled with laughter. I loved that Brian’s aunt married them, and they had a number of readings by other family members.

After the ceremony, we spent some time making portraits out in the grounds. I could shoot at this venue for hours and never get bored. I love the rugged nature of the vines, the clean, modern lines of the building, and there are so many little spots that are perfect for framing a portrait – the gates, the huge wooden front door, and so on.

After portraits, the wedding party made their grand entrance, then Krista and Brian danced their first dance which was played by two friends. I jumped up to the balcony for a bird’s eye view. During dinner there were some fun toasts (pictured above is Krista’s brother giving his short but sweet toast) and then a ton of dancing. These guys sure know how to party!

Krista and Brian, thank you for trusting me to document your wedding, and I hope you enjoy your Saltwater Farm Vineyard wedding photo teasers! I’ll be in touch with the full set in around four weeks!
