NYC Engagement Session: Nipa + Jordan

Dec 3, 2010 | Engagements

Ahh, where do I start with this post?  I’ve just spent the afternoon reliving this epic e-session in New York from a couple of weeks ago, and have found myself once again squealing with laughter.  Nipa and Jordan booked me for their wedding over email a few months ago, and I’d been dying to meet them ever since.  They were smart, funny and sweet in their emails, but meeting them in person (finally!) was quite the unexpected treat.  I am pretty sure I have never laughed so much before in all my life, let alone during a photo session with a couple I’d only just met.  But … well … there were whoopee cushions.  And frolics.  And all sorts of ridiculous nonsense.  I’ll start with a couple of cute, sweet images (because we got a few of those too) and then we’ll move onto the good stuff.  🙂

Jordan and Nipa met on an online dating site.  The best folks do.  😉  Their first date was at a South African wine bar, Xai Xai.  It was closed that afternoon, but we started with a couple of photos out front:

Xai Xai is in Hell’s Kitchen, where they live – and it’s now one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York.  Love this yellow wall:

I also like this quiet spot outside another restaurant:

I kinda love that we were joined by this mail guy for a couple of shots!  And how cool is this wall?!  Running-jumping cool!

And a couple more cute shots, this time with a little vintage vibe …

I’m a sucker for bicycles, and red shoes.

Nipa and Jordan kindly bought me a slice of cheeseburger pizza for lunch (yum!) and I returned the favor by taking these shots 😉

After lunch, we grabbed a cab and headed over to Central Park.  A sweet shot first … then out came the whoopee cushion!

I was so happy that there were still some rich fall colors …

After a little searching, we found the bench where Jordan proposed.  So they did a reenactment of that, and I photographed and giggled.  🙂

We ended our session at another of their favorite spots – the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central Station.  It’s beastly dark in there, but I love what we were able to get (with a little help from my friend the video light).

Thank you both so much for a wonderful and hilarious afternoon.  I can’t wait for your wedding next fall!

  3. I figured the first time a photographer followed me around town, they’d be crouching behind bushes taking pictures with a wristwatch camera. But this was so much more fun!

Thank you Kate… It’s amazing to see your talent in these pictures, and we couldn’t be happier with the results!!!
