Harvard and Charles River Engagement Session: Kate + Alex

Apr 26, 2010 | Engagements

On Saturday, I met up with Kate and Alex near their home in Cambridge, MA.  I’ve spent so little time on the north side of the river, and I’d forgotten how pretty it is over there.  We decided to take a stroll south from their home in the Oxford area, stopping at some favorite spots for photos.  We started in Harvard Yard – I love the clean lines of the architecture here:

These shots up high on a ledge were cute – I love it when couples get distracted during the session as it makes for really natural photos.

After a little while exploring Harvard, we wandered down to the Charles River.  It was teeming with people, but I loved this blossoming tree that Kate found:

And these shots are some of my favorites of the day – love the giggles!

I spotted another blossom-covered tree on our way past JFK Park:

And then I saw this boat mural – it was perfect for Kate and Alex’s cute nautical-inspired outfits 🙂

We went back to their place for a quick change of clothing and to pick up the album of letters.  Alex and Kate’s first year together was spent long-distance (Kate was in China for a year), and they have an amazing collection of letters.  I’m excited to see how they use the letters in their wedding – please let me know if you have any great ideas that I can pass on to them!

Our last stop of the day was their favorite coffee shop, Simon’s.  I had an awesome vanilla latte (thank you Alex!) and am happy to report that I have finally found west coast quality coffee in the Boston area.

As we were heading back from the coffee shop, we grabbed a couple of last sun-drenched shots.  These might be my absolute favorites of the day.  Love those golden halos!

Thank you both for an amazing afternoon and I hope you enjoy your (ridiculous amount of) teasers.  I can’t wait for your wedding at The Lyman Estate in Waltham this August!

  1. Love the pictures Kate! Here’s a little idea for the letters- on our wedding cake we had love phrases/quotes written on and around each tier (you were there && have the pictures :). They can do the same but use parts of their letters that they love instead of general love phrases.

  5. KATE. these photos make me so excessively, ridiculously happy. if this weren’t a public forum my language would, as you know, be far more obscene and emphatic. but truly, i didn’t even realise how wound up with angst and stress i’ve been until these photos brought such a release of joy. (i clearly Have forgotten this is a public forum after all.) i do think these may be my most favourite engagement photos ever. with all due respect, nothing else on the immediate homepage compares to the sight of you two. apologies for any embarrassment i may have caused here. but brilliant photos — i don’t think you could have asked for more.

  14. Mr. & Ms. Photogenic! The shots of you two in the tree remind me of a favorite photo of Alex in a backyard tree in Canton when he was a year and a half old. Keep smiling!

  16. Thoroughly impressed with these pics. Only thing that would make you two look better would be if Alex wore his sweatpants.

  19. @Nathan, at least he isn’t wearing sweatpants. I suspect either Kate or the photographer intervened before the photos were taken. A more likely story is that he WAS wearing sweatpants, which is why he had to wear Kate’s jeans. Either way, these are great photos!

  29. @Ange, agreed. I can imagine what the sweat pants coup looked like…the glaring that went on while the camera wasn’t looking, AK muttering about respecting his youth and Kate trying to uphold a sense of Fashion. I say cheers to AK for remembering our roots!
